An early morning accident that occurred on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, claimed one individual’s life and seriously injured another in a tragic multi-car accident near the Broadway exit of Highway 580 in Oakland. Calls reporting the fatal car crash, which later resulted in pedestrian deaths, began flooding into California Highway Patrol around 4:29 a.m., that same morning.

When officers arrived, they discovered a chaotic scene. While one victim was found trapped beneath a vehicle, another was found severely injured further down the highway. As for the roadway itself, the scene the officers arrived at was a scattered mess of disabled vehicles that had been damaged in one way or another. All westbound lanes of Highway 580 were blocked as a result.

When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they were successfully able to free the male victim, later determined to have been the driver of a Honda, that had become stuck under the one vehicle. He was transported to Highland Hospital with significant injuries.

As for the other male victim, who was later determined to have been the driver of an Acura, he was found lying on the freeway. Despite many attempts to revive him, he succumbed to his injuries at the accident scene.

Witness statements were taken as part of an investigation into the accident that immediately ensued. It was determined that the injured Honda and the deceased Acura drivers struck each other immediately before both getting out of their cars in the middle of the freeway. It was then that both drivers were struck by traffic.

If you or someone you know has either been severely injured or fallen victim to an instance of wrongful death as a result of the negligence of another, a Bay Area, California attorney can provide advice and guidance in your legal matter.
